Monroe Pop Fest was a blast this year! It always is, but this year especially because it was my triumphant return to the comic con scene after two years. It was so great to see old friends and make new ones, and to share a space with people that make it fun to just be yourself and geek out about mutual interests. One of my favorite conversations was with a young boy who shared the same taste in old TV shows as me. He said he watched them with his grandma. These are the types of exchanges that make these events so special.
The crowd was much thinner, this was by design for safety, with more of the convention being hosted outside of the building and expanding to two days instead of one. These changes did not affect my sales, and I’m going to make sure I’m present Friday next year as well! My most popular items were the stickers and journals. All items are still available to order at my online store.
I couldn’t have asked for better table neighbors. I was next door to the Three Y’s Men again who are always helpful and a barrel of laughs, and across from the 501st Great Lakes Garrison and IWR wresting. My convention sketch was of a lifesize Yoda prop.
I was thrilled to get to meet the guest of honor, Doug Jones and have him sign my beloved Silver Surfer painting! A darling man who took the time to discuss where and how I wanted him to sign, as he didn’t want to “ruin my painting”. Other highlights include meeting the Goosebumps books cover artist Tim Jacobus, and having my badge signed by the artist who designed it, Dave Brown.
Next year can’t come soon enough. Monroe Pop Fest is my favorite convention to set up at, and with good reason. My only regret was that I didn’t have a chance to take in ALL it had to offer!
Monroe Pop Fest returns to Monroe, Michigan September 17th and 18th! I will be there on Saturday only, so come out and see me at the first show I’ve done in two years! In addition to bringing copies of my books to sign, I will also have a new line of merchandise featuring some of my fan art. I felt like I needed more items to sell at a lower price point, so I’ve added button pins and stickers (these are things I also enjoy buying myself). I’ve been busy getting things ordered and updating my web store to reflect the new items in preparation for the convention. Quantities on some of the items will be VERY limited, as in I’ll only have one of each item to test them out. To guarantee an item I suggest ordering online and having it shipped to you.
