Ypsilanti Comic Con Coming Soon

We are about a month out from the second ever Ypsilanti Comic Con! I attended the one in March and am happy to be back at the September 24th con as a vendor! This will be my second book-signing appearance since the release of my sequel to The Sick Rose Vampires: Skin of the Night!

Book bundles will be available if you are picking up both books in the series. There will be a discount if you purchase both books together, or bring in your first book to get it signed and get a discount on the second! I’m continuing the sale on trinket boxes at the show while supplies last.

And The Winner Is…

The stress ball contest has ended and I have my winner. Because there wouldn’t have been a contest without the help of my two participants, they both will have a reserved signed copy of Skin of the Night shipped to them upon publication.

The giveaway was in celebration of my first published book turning one year old. The sequel will be coming out around Halloween. You may purchase book one, Blood & Alcohol, at amazon and look forward to more giveaways after book two, Skin of the Night, is published.

Progress on Skin of the Night is happening. I’m about halfway through the number of drawings I was shooting for with this book.  The writing was completed earlier this year and will be ready to go to beta readers with drawings around mid-October. I am truly grateful that one of my fabulous editors from my last book has signed on to do this one too. Of course I picked my most favorite time of year, Halloween/fall, for the final push to get my book out. There is so much going on right now, it’s been challenging making time for everything and staying balanced and not burning out.

In other news, there seems to be some movement on the Mini PI tank top that I ordered back on July 1st and got lost in the mail. The design was ultimately intended to be included in my product line of geeky fan art in The Sick Shoppe, the online store I created to sell The Sick Rose merchandise and am expanding to include other items featuring my original artwork and signed copies of my books. Fingers crossed that I finally get the tank one day, you know, before winter, but I’ve already decided it’s probably best to go through another company. I will be devoting more time to reopening the store after Skin of the Night comes out.

This weekend I will be hanging out at Monroe Comic Con as Zatanna and meeting the Red Ranger and whatnot. Geeky shenanigans to ensue.

There is one week left to enter the giveaway for a stress ball and a reserved signed copy of my next book:

I also discovered today that I have 311 subscribers on wordpress!  This is a combined total of fans from my wordpress, facebook, and twitter accounts.  Thank you everyone for following me and supporting my work!

Contest Entry

Here is my finished entry for the Christopher Hart Contest #4:

I think it took about 4.5 hours to complete all three drawings and upload them to the computer.  The 3/4 turn was definitely the hardest!  I have enjoyed working with the markers, but it is more time consuming than using the computer.  I will post any feedback I get from my drawing after the contest has ended.

Another one of my favorite Arcana tracks.

Drawing Contest and Character Study: Aerik

I saw on Christopher Hart’s facebook page that he is having another drawing contest.  I haven’t entered before but have enjoyed doing some of his drawing exercises on the page and sharing them with other artists.  I’m using the contest as an excuse to practice drawing Aerik Arcana, one of the main characters from my story, The Sick Rose.

I know the deadline is only two days away and I have yet to do the 3/4 view.  I saved the hardest for last!  I hope I finish in time, but if not, I was able to complete a side view drawing and color to go with the front view I created in 2012.

Contest rules are as follows:

START DATE: February 1, 2014
DEADLINE FOR ENTREES: February 7, 2014

There is now a new drawing contest on the first of every month – with prizes for the winner & runner-up. Get your work seen by other artists. Receive comments on your work, and post comments on others’ work.

The contest guidelines (below) will be re-posted every day, so you can enter at any time until the deadline. At the same time, I will also continue my daily posts on other topics. I hope you’ll join me for the contest, and for the daily topics.

FIRST PRIZE: A signed copy of one of my How-To-Draw books.

SECOND PRIZE: A free copy of one of my books.

THE THEME: Head “Turnarounds.” Take an ORIGINAL character, and draw it in a front view, side view and 3/4 view. The point is to be able to recreate the look of the character, and its expression, at any angle. This is a key to character design, and this contest is designed to get you thinking along these lines.

1) If you won a book in the previous contest, you have to wait until the next contest to enter.
2) One submission per person
3) Any style, manga, cartoons, comics, realism, fantasy, etc.
4) Black & white or color is fine
5) Post it to my wall
6) Have fun! And remember, if you don’t win this time, there’s a new contest every month!

Aerik’s last name is taken from one of my favorite neoclassical darkwave bands.  This is my favorite type of music to write to.
