#GivingTuesday

0

There has been radio silence from me during the time Black Friday seeped into Thanksgiving, the weekend, and became a whole Black Friday Week. Now it appears Cyber Monday has turned into Cyber Week. (a/s/l?)

No, I haven’t been shopping. I didn’t do any special sales at my webstore on my books either. I spent way too much time promoting sales last year and did not make one sale. Instead, I used that time recovering from throwing my back out two weeks ago moving furniture, getting caught up on cleaning, and decorating for the holidays. also-availableDuring that time, I also had a breakthrough on figuring out which software to use for the layout of my third book in The Sick Rose Vampires series, The Heart is a Rebel.

I will save you the details, but I had beaucoup problems and frustration putting together my last book. There was time and energy lost with using sub par software when it could have went towards making additional and better quality illustrations. Despite lack of funds and training on the fanciest and current ways of putting together a book or the means to hire someone who can, I may have figured out a way to make this go easier. This has always been a fly by the seat of my pants operation. Without yet saying what I’m specifically using this time around, so far so good.

So, it’s “Giving Tuesday”. A day set aside to make consumerism feel better, if there is money left after Black/Cyber Week/Month/Whatever events to donate to charity. Let’s make giving a part of our lifestyle, and not just because we need to feel better about our spending habits, or because it’s the holidays. If you don’t have the moola, donate your time or skills. Last week I got to spend time with elementary school kids making art.

drawing-for-a-cureI thought today would be a good day for me to announce that I’ve been working with Drawing For A Cure, a non-profit organization of artists who contribute artwork with all sales going towards the American Cancer Society. You may have seen my Joker/Harley fan art as a coloring page. Soon you can get it as a full color print exclusively from Drawing For A Cure, with all proceeds going to a good cause. WIN

Did you do something special for #GivingTuesday? How do you make giving a part of your life the rest of the year?

And The Winner Is…

Binge on Dark Shadows this Weekend and Win Free Stuff

0

I just discovered via The Collinsport Historical Society that Decades TV Network is airing a Dark Shadows Binge this weekend! I’m happy about this perhaps becoming a Halloween tradition! To say that the show had an impact on me personally, and in my writing and art, is an understatement. The Binge is a nice way for new fans to get a crash course on the show and for us old ones to enjoy the nostalgia, whether we were running home from school to watch during it’s original airing, getting acquainted in the 90’s on the SciFi channel (“wasn’t it that weird vampire show?”), or in my case, getting the DVDs mailed to me from Netflix because someone said my Dad resembled Willie Loomis.

I’ve included a couple of pieces of Dark Shadows fan art in my Halloween Giveaway package, in addition to two signed paperback books from The Sick Rose Vampires! Enter the giveaway HERE by Halloween! I will randomly select a winner on November 1st.

DollarCon Summer Sale

0

I’m still picking up the pieces after having my vehicle stolen two months ago. I haven’t scheduled any conventions or book-signings for the rest of the summer. Why would I do that if I need the money? I don’t think people realize how expensive it can be for an artist or indie author to appear at a convention. Aside from paying for table fees, we have to make sure we have enough stock on hand to actually sell. Most times I am lucky to make back my table fee let alone what it costs to bring the merchandise to you. I am usually paying more to make an appearance. When you’re an indie, that’s the way it goes, and I accept that. But I also need to be realistic right now as I continue to struggle from the financial blow I took to replace my car.

dollarconI’ve decided to try doing some fun sales online in the meantime over the rest of the summer. My first summer deal is DollarCon! I’ve marked down all 8-1/2 x 11 prints in my portfolio to $1.00!!! This will be for an undetermined limited time due to there being VERY limited quantities of prints. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. I’m not planning on printing any more. All $1 print orders include a FREE copy of the 2016 #IndieBooksBeSeen catalog for you to pick out some reading material to get through the dog days of summer!

My two books published so far in The Sick Rose Vampires series are still available as a discounted bundle.

You may also help with the car replacement fund at gofundme.com or at my webstore.

I am signed up for two conventions in the fall. Monroe Comic Con and Comique Con in October. Please check my Events page for more information!

Stay tuned for more summer steals from my store, Sick Shoppe!

Please Rate & Review The Sick Rose Vampires

0

UntitledI am writing to you today to ask a favor. The Sick Rose Vampires needs to be rated and reviewed on Amazon. I could brag about how fantastic the story is and post numerous pictures trying to convince strangers that my books are worth a read, but your recommendations will do more than I ever could alone. That’s why it so important to rate and review the books of your favorite (especially independent) authors. Since The Sick Rose Vampires is an ongoing series of books, it’s also important for me as a writer to get feedback on what you’re liking about the story so far. The fans will help shape what this series becomes.

If you already have seen a copy of my second book in the series, Skin of the Night, you’ll notice a few changes in the evolution of style that have already occurred since the publication of book one. Your feedback and influence has a lot to do with that. There are more illustrations, more actions shots, speech bubbles, and three dimensional coloring methods. I want this story to be more than a comic, short story, and paranormal romance combined. It want it to evolve into something that is uniquely The Sick Rose Vampires, where I continue to struggle to categorize it.

Book I: Blood & Alcohol ended with a major cliffhanger. I went a little easier on you in the second book with a somewhat milder ending. Would you prefer another cliffhanger for book three or the satisfaction of resolution? After reviewing the draft for book three yesterday, I could go either way right now. I have also settled on the title for Book III: The Heart is a Rebel. The drafts for books three and four are already written. These two books will take place in the current story line. From there, I will publish an anthology of books (one through four) and begin a spin off prequel series within The Sick Rose Vampires universe. I have big plans for this, and I need your help.

Please rate and/or review my books on Amazon. You do not need to have purchased the books there to rate them or write a review. If you haven’t purchased copies of the books yet, you may do so at Amazon. For autographed copies, please purchase them from my online store, Sick Shoppe. You can always look them up on Amazon to submit your ratings and reviews later.

The best thing you can do to support your favorite indie author other than buying and sharing our product, is to review and rate our work. I’ve had people that aren’t into vampire stories or comics tell me how much they love The Sick Rose Vampires. I want more of that going on. Let’s share the fun!

I do not have any book signings scheduled for this summer, but I will be back in the fall. I will be appearing for the first time as a vendor at Monroe Comic Con on October 1st.  I also was accepted back to this years Comique Con on October 22nd. More information on these two events in upcoming posts.
