Prize pack includes: an autographed copy of both books in The Sick Rose Vampires series so far, chibi Barnabas Collins print, and Barnabas Collins trinket box.
Today is a good day! In addition to hearing the news that Barnes & Noble is going to begin carrying self-published books in their stores, Elsie Earl Studios has started an Indie Book Club! And none other than my Skin of the Night has been selected as the club’s next reading on July 19th!
Elsie Earl Studios of Ann Arbor, Michigan, is a multi-purpose creative utopia dreamed up and owned by Loretta Friend. I was happy in be in attendance at the grand opening/ribbon cutting ceremony held on April 30th. It is a place for the local community to gather together and explore different mediums of art, perhaps some they’ve never tried before. The studio provides space and time for arts & crafts, classes & workshops, as well as entertainment for all ages. The variety of activities include but are not limited to:
- Fairy Houses
- Laser-cut doll houses
- Senior Crafter’s Tea
- 3-D Painting (plaster figurines, trinket boxes, wall plaques. Same-day take-home).
- Laser cut bird houses and feeders
appreciation (abstract, Impressionism, watercolor, etc)
- Music appreciation (jazz, blues, Beatles, etc, with performances)
- Slide Show Storytime
- Human-size board games for parties and business team building
And now we may add to that list of fun an Indie Book Club! You may RSVP for Indie Book Club on facebook here!
Signed copies of Skin of the Night as well as my first book Blood & Alcohol are available for purchase at the studio at a discounted book club member rate offered nowhere else. You may also pick up a free copy of the 2016 #IndieBooksBeSeen catalog. This catalog will be used as a tool to choose future book club reading material as decided by the club members. Please note I will not be present at the July 19th meeting. I want people to feel free to discuss the book openly and develop their own impressions of the material. Due to my book being a 40 page graphic novella, the story will be read by group members at the meeting.
If you are an indie author, check to see if there is an indie book club in your area. You also may start your own. It’s a great way to promote your work and the work of fellow indie authors. We really do have so much to offer. If you are interested in having your book considered as a future selection for Elsie Earl Studio’s Indie Book Club, and are willing to provide a discount to the book club members as an encouragement and thank you for purchasing multiple copies of your book, please contact Loretta Friend directly with information about your books at: Loretta@ElsieEarlStudios.com, 734-646-6633
If you are an indie book reader, one of the best things you can do for an indie author is to help guide new fans to us by rating and reviewing our books on Amazon. You do not have to have purchased the books on Amazon. If you already read my books or are planning to, please rate and review them here: Book I: Blood & Alcohol & Book II: Skin of the Night
I really appreciate it!
It’s my party and I can read if I want to.
Somehow you ended up at a party. It’s loud, noisy and people are chattering. The music is terrible. Are people dancing or just pushing each other around? I’d rather pee outside than use this bathroom. I wish I was home with my cat and something good to read.
Let’s try something different. It can be as quiet as you’d like. You may attend alone (or maybe with a pet) and your attire, if any, is at your discretion. Are you under a shady tree? You don’t have to interact with anyone…even me. You can stay in bed or your favorite chair. The best part is that you can hook up with a fresh new book at a steal – instantly. Welcome to my book party.
This is my first time celebrating #IndiePrideDay, and I wanted to do something really special. I wanted to not only offer new fans a great deal on my book series, but I wanted to show my established fans and followers some of the fantastic selections available from other independently published authors. That is after all what this day is all about: appreciating indie authors and our readers. As a token of my personal gratitude to this movement of talented individuals and to the folks of good taste who recognize us, I am offering The Sick Rose Vampires book series at a DEEP discount.
Now if you’ve already bit into The Sick Rose Vampires and need a new novel fix, I’ve selected some of the best titles published independently in the genres of paranormal, romance, fantasy, and VAMPIRES! Yes, vampires are a genre at my book party! Grab one or ALL THE BOOKS. It would be helpful to have a Kindle or other e-reader, but it is not necessary. Many of these authors are sharing amazing deals on e-books. That means you can get indie books instantly!
Would you surrender your soul for the love of the King? Lena, a vampire and a Guardian of the Order, has been honour-bound to protect human souls all her life. Acting first and thinking second is what’s saved her skin time and again in the war against the Fallen, but her disregard for orders soon catches up with her when her boss is seriously injured. Forced to take responsibility for her actions, Lena is thrust into the path of her very own kryptonite; Thorn. The raw power of his soul calls to her and his mere presence lights a fire within her that she cannot contain. With Vampire magic waning and the race in crisis, can either of them afford to ignore Nature’s call? If they do, the future of the race is in jeopardy. If they don’t, they will both lose the most precious part of themselves. Their souls.
Movie star Trinity Scott and rogue vampire Sir John Falstaff wrestle with a crafty demon, a mob of paparazzi and a horde of hungry ghosts—not to mention the food truck owner’s zombie brother-in-law. The quest for answers leads to Lost Ranch, an isolated Northern California town with a tragic past and a deadly present.
“She noticed, as if in a dream, a single diamond hair comb fall to the floor. The sparkling jewels landed face down in the mud.”
Annabel Maria Hoddington is the epitome of high society. She has everything money can buy and as befits a lady of her station, is engaged to the richest bachelor in England. However, on the day of her eighteenth birthday – her perfect future on the brink of fulfilment – she is abducted and held hostage in an isolated village, where she finds herself entrapped in the harsh world of poverty. Forced to live amongst three mentally scarred siblings, she must adapt to her new, sinister world…or die.
Elizabeth Lancaster’s life appears normal. In Lizzie’s world of horses, friends, boundaries, and sweet tea, there is no room for paranormal beliefs, though secrets loom around her in the shadows nonetheless. But before Lizzie can begin to understand the power of these secrets, or the plan fate has in store for her, Lizzie must try and discover what lies within the mysteries of her own heart.
When a mysterious stranger comes to Fox Meadows, fate steps out of the shadows. Unexplainable events begin to occur in Lizzie’s life, as well as in her dreams, creating fear, yet eliciting in her a strange notion of wonder at the possibilities. But Lizzie’s eyes are unable to believe what she sees. Her lack of experience with affairs of the heart cause her to mistrust her emotions. She convinces herself that there is an explanation, and these bizarre, and even frightening occurrences must somehow be tied to her unexpected crush on her best friend Rob Jacobs, and her intense draw to the intoxicating stranger, Cain Atchley. Lizzie’s path to self-discovery becomes twisted, dark, and at times, wicked. Caught between the passions of two men, Lizzie must follow the path laid before her, and wake the mysteries sleeping in her soul. Her journey begins with the story of The Three Crowns.

Sophie soon learns that vampires exist, her neighbors back home aren’t what they seem and new boyfriends can be found in the strangest of situations.
Relative Strangers is the first in a new vampire series with a distinctly British flavor, but which will appeal to everyone. Reviews call it “a vampire tale with bite”, with “brilliant characters that draw you in” and a very fresh take on the genre. Read it now to find out what reviewers are raving about.
Ian Troy is one of the Shinree, a fallen people with an inherent addiction to magic. Scorned and reviled for the deadly side of their spells, the Shinree are bred as slaves. Their magic is suppressed by drugs and used only as it serves the purposes of the other races.
Descended from a long line of soldiers, Ian is conscripted into the Rellan army and made to fight in their longstanding conflict against the ruthless Langorian invaders. The downfall of Rella imminent, Ian goes against orders and turns to the Crown of Stones, an ancient Shinree relic of untold power. Ignorant of its true purpose, Ian uses the crown to end the war, and pays a terrible price.
A decade later, still tortured by the aftermath of that day, Ian lives as a bounty hunter in self-imposed exile. Having renounced his magical heritage, he curbs his obsession with a steady stream of wine and regret. He struggles to put it all behind him, until a fateful encounter with a pretty assassin brings Ian’s past crashing into the present.
Targeted by a rogue Shinree, and a ruthless old enemy, Ian is forced to use magic again. His deadly addiction is rekindled and his life of isolation is brought to a swift end. With the land he gave up everything to protect once more in jeopardy, and his people’s future at stake, Ian becomes embroiled in a violent race for control of the Crown of Stones. To save the realms and those he cares for, Ian must embrace the thing he fears most: his own power.

Now let’s finish getting primped for the book party!
I have been having a blast working with #IndieBooksBeSeen. It is a great network of self-published authors, and I’ve been having fun being a part of their catalog for 2016. I am so proud to be able to share this catalog at book-signings and provide it for free to my readers. It’s a beautiful catalog with a myriad of book selections.
#IndieBooksBeSeen is a movement that comes with it’s very own holiday that I am pleased to be participating in this year. It’s a day for us indie authors to take over social media, brag about our work, and offer special deals to our readers. Last year #IndiePrideDay was a top trending topic on Twitter. Let’s do it again, shall we?
I’ve decided to do something really crazy for this special day. It’s something I’ve never done before and will only be available on July 1st. Well, here it is:
Take advantage of this insane offer in the name of Indie Pride! I’m being brave and offering a DEEP discount even though I’m still trying to get a new vehicle after mine was stolen about a month ago. You may track my progress of obtaining a replacement ride and contribute here. Supporting my writing and art helps too! Please buy my stuff here! Thank you so very much!
BONUS: For #IndiePrideDay I am also offering you direct access to a SUPER-natural deal from paranormal romance author, Sharon Lipman. Check back here one week from tomorrow to see what it is. I promise, it’s good!
This morning I woke up to the kindness of strangers and my story being featured on international comic book news and rumors website, Bleeding Cool. More people are stepping up to support me getting a replacement vehicle and convention gear. For every troll trying to thwart my plea, there is someone out there who “gets it”. Many of these people are artists, vendors, or somehow related to the comics world themselves and understand the hustle like no one else can. My donors and those offering moral support and sympathy are helping me stay strong. They are making it okay to ask for help, when doing so is so scary.
A big shout out to my Comic Book Industry Adviser, Verlon Murray, for taking my story to Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool. Verlon has been on my team since day one, from consulting me on the layout of my first book to helping me at my first book signing. He has helped me to evolve stylistically in my work, and expand my visual representation at comic book shows. He also assisted with the popular advertising “selfie” campaign used for Book I. I’m optimistic that fans will appreciate the new look of Book II! Skin of the Night has incorporated more traditional comic book elements without taking away from the prose and features some of my new and improved digital coloring techniques.
I’ve been throwing myself into finishing and promoting the publication of Skin of the Night as a way of coping with some bad news that I’ve been reluctant to share publicly. My vehicle was stolen last week with my convention set-up gear inside. I was also waiting to see if my truck would be found. To answer a question posted before my gofundme page was removed from the Artist Alley International group on facebook, the police are involved.
The photo above shows what I mean as far as convention gear. The shelving unit, sign, illuminated bat, extension chords and promo posters were taken with the truck.
I am humbly appealing to my fans, the over 600 of you following my blog, to help me get back on track. My next book-signing/comic convention appearance is in 11 days. My display might be less than impressive, but I will be there. The book is done. The bad guys will not stop me.
Thank you everyone for your financial and moral support. Thank you for sharing my story. Thank you for being a fan.
