Indie Book Club Starting in Ann Arbor, Michigan

1

Today is a good day! In addition to hearing the news that Barnes & Noble is going to begin carrying self-published books in their stores, Elsie Earl Studios has started an Indie Book Club! And none other than my Skin of the Night has been selected as the club’s next reading on July 19th!

Elsie Earl Studios of Ann Arbor, Michigan, is a multi-purpose creative utopia dreamed up and owned by Loretta Friend. I was happy in be in attendance at the grand opening/ribbon cutting ceremony held on April 30th. It is a place for the local community to gather together and explore different mediums of art, perhaps some they’ve never tried before. The studio provides space and time for arts & crafts, classes & workshops, as well as entertainment for all ages. The variety of activities include but are not limited to:

  • Fairy Houses
  • Laser-cut doll houses
  • Senior Crafter’s Tea
  • 3-D Painting (plaster figurines, trinket boxes, wall plaques. Same-day take-home).
  • Laser cut bird houses and feeders
  • Art
    appreciation (abstract, Impressionism, watercolor, etc)
  • Music appreciation (jazz, blues, Beatles, etc, with performances)
  • Slide Show Storytime
  • Human-size board games for parties and business team building

And now we may add to that list of fun an Indie Book Club! You may RSVP for Indie Book Club on facebook here!

SR 2 COVER frontSigned copies of Skin of the Night as well as my first book Blood & Alcohol are available for purchase at the studio at a discounted book club member rate offered nowhere else. You may also pick up a free copy of the 2016 #IndieBooksBeSeen catalog. This catalog will be used as a tool to choose future book club reading material as decided by the club members. Please note I will not be present at the July 19th meeting. I want people to feel free to discuss the book openly and develop their own impressions of the material. Due to my book being a 40 page graphic novella, the story will be read by group members at the meeting.

If you are an indie author, check to see if there is an indie book club in your area. You also may start your own. It’s a great way to promote your work and the work of fellow indie authors. We really do have so much to offer. If you are interested in having your book considered as a future selection for Elsie Earl Studio’s Indie Book Club, and are willing to provide a discount to the book club members as an encouragement and thank you for purchasing multiple copies of your book, please contact Loretta Friend directly with information about your books at: Loretta@ElsieEarlStudios.com, 734-646-6633

If you are an indie book reader, one of the best things you can do for an indie author is to help guide new fans to us by rating and reviewing our books on Amazon. You do not have to have purchased the books on Amazon. If you already read my books or are planning to, please rate and review them here: Book I: Blood & Alcohol & Book II: Skin of the Night

I really appreciate it!

Sick Shoppe is back!

I survived this crazy month of two comic book conventions!

The DoctorsFirst was Comique Con, which afforded me priceless networking opportunities with other lady comic book creators and women involved in making comic books. I was also able to attend an intersectionality and diversity in comics panel which set me on a researching mission to learn more about representing biracial main characters in The Sick Rose Vampires. I will be looking forward to reporting back on that later.

cosplay judge Rich GarlandLast weekend was Taylor Town Comic Con held during a snow storm in Michigan. The turn out was a reflection of the weather, but again allowed me to make new friends and touch base with old ones. And I had an absolute blast judging the cosplay contest!

I’m happy and grateful that I made it through doing conventions and now will have more time to get back to finishing Skin of the Night.  However, the most important thing that I wanted to share with this post is that the Sick Shoppe is back up and running for the holidays! So if you weren’t able to make it out to a con or saw something there that you liked, you can now order it online! I’m offering FREE SHIPPING on everything through Cyber Monday!

New Artwork Used in Diosa de la Luna Display

No, it’s isn’t vampires again.  But I’m doing art.  And that’s a good thing!

This 100_3606past weekend was the DIYpsi Indie Art Summer Festival in Ypsilanti, Michigan. A long-time friend of mine, Celena Lopez, who is the talented crafter behind Diosa de la Luna, put a request out on facebook for someone to contribute art to be used in a tabletop display.  I happened to see the request and was excited to take on the challenge.  She was happy with the result and used it as part as her colorful and inviting table top display of wares.  I went to the art fair on Sunday and got to see my artwork in action and look at all her neat things.

100_3610It was a fun show held at Arbor Brewing Company Microbrewery.  I hadn’t been to an art show in years. I miss them.  Aside from the Michigan humidity, it was a great day.  I was impressed by the sense of community DIYpsi fosters for local artists and crafters.  I’m looking forward to attending more Diosa de la Luna and DIYpsi shows in the future.
